Campus-Wide Improvements, Lansing Community College

Project Name:
Landscaping and Grounds, Campus Wide Improvements

Client Name:
Lansing Community College (LCC)

Date:
2009 – ongoing

Location:
Lansing, MI

Lansing Community College and Eng. have had a positive working relationship for several years.  As LCC is located in Downtown Lansing, parking is a premium and Lansing Community College strives to make as much parking available for their students and employees as possible. In 2009, Eng. assisted LLC in the redevelopment of several campus parking lots, including Lot U. The success of Parking Lot U led to additional campus parking lot improvement projects (Lots G, H, I & W).

Since 2013, Eng. has held the LCC contracts for Landscaping and Grounds and Campus Wide Improvements resulting in the following projects:

Capitol Avenue Streetscape – Removed utility lines and poles, improved sidewalks, and lined both sides of Capital Avenue with native species trees.  Eventually the trees will create a canopy over the main road into campus – and to our State Capital.

Urban Forest – Completed a campus wide tree inventory documented with photos, GPS location, species identification, and health status of each tree. Coordinated the effort to remove and replace over 200 trees – resulting in the desired “Urban Forest”.

Memorial Clock Tower – Eng. is honored to have been part of the design team for the Memorial Clock Tower, a significant piece of the improvements to the campus mall. Our team provided accessible walks, seats, landscaping and low level lighting for the approach to the tower.

Gannon Building Circle Drive – Created a “wave lawn” to compliment the architecture of the Gannon Building’s glass wall – the jewel of the downtown campus. This project also focused on access and safety improvements to the main entrance of one of the college’s busiest buildings.

Art Installation and Lighting – Strategically placed and installed lighting for 20+ sculptures around campus. The downtown campus of Lansing Community College is now considered a cultural destination to members of the community, students and visitors to our Capitol City.

Campus Wide Sidewalk Improvements – This project had two main goals: pedestrian safety and the creation of greenspace. By narrowing sidewalk widths and minimizing areas of concrete this project created greenspace by reducing the hardscape footprint of the college.

Mason Aviation Utility Location and Survey – Lansing Community College has a thriving aviation studies curriculum. Eng. conducted a survey at the local airfield utilized for their course training.
